AUTOSLALOM IS...

... an elapsed time driving skill competition that emphasize the driver's ability and the car's handling characteristics. This is accomplished by driving a course that is designated by traffic cones on a low hazard location, such as a parking lot or inactive airstrip. While speeds are no greater than those normally encountered in legal highway driving, the combination of concentration and car feedback creates an adrenaline pumping experience. Courses are different at each event and each driver receives three or four attempts at establishing their best time.

Cars are classified according to the level of preparation and relative performance with classes for all types of cars from stock econo-boxes to fully race-prepared formula cars, though most local competitors drive stock or slightly modified sport cars and sedans.

Autoslalom is a relatively safe sport as there is no "wheel to wheel" racing. The only safety equipment required is a helmet, seat belts and a car in proper working condition.

Autoslalom is an excellent way for the driving enthusiast to develop their driving skills and experience their car at the limit in a relatively safe and low cost environment. Other than accelerated tire wear and the occasional scuff mark from a cone, run parameters are such that a vehicle in good operating condition will not be unduly stressed.

Why not join us at our next event?

WHAT'S UP IN 2010!

Our first ever homegrown Level 2 Autoslalom school took place on July 10th. While we didn't get the registration numbers we were expecting, those that did attend found it very beneficial and gave it positive reviews, going as far as saying, "the best $100 I've ever spent!".

Event 7 on July 11th brought out 41 competitors to enjoy the near perfect weather and a great day of competition. The cone count was high as few mastered the series of "pinches" at the north end.

Due to the rain out of our June 26th event and the cancelation of the Rivers Air Base event our next event is a "make up" date on Monday, August 2nd at St. Andrews. This is a points event. The Hot Dog cart will be there as usual.

Changes of note for 2010

Car Classes:
We are reducing the number of Trophy Classes to three: SCCA Competition, Stock Street Tire and Modified Street Tire. In addition we will be running a non-trophy “Raw Time” class for those that do not have a WSCC annual membership and for those members that don’t wish to compete in the trophy classes.

Technical Inspections:
A “Self-tech” program will be implemented. Simply stated, you are responsible to ensure that your car is safe to run. Supplied forms must be filled out, signed and turned in at registration/check-in.

Rookie Meeting:
There will be a rookie meeting prior to the course walk at each event. This is a mandatory meeting for all first time competitors and will cover important safety and event procedure information. First timers will not be allowed to compete if they do not attend this meeting.

Fees:
To ensure the viability of the WSCC Autoslalom program we found it necessary to raise fees by $5 across the board.

WSCC ANNUAL MEMBERSHIP BENEFITS

-Race in trophy classes
-Permanent car number
-No need to pay daily membership fee for each event
